In 2024, Inua Dada Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, launched a six-month youth advocacy project titled "Generation Parliament: Sustaining the Momentum." This initiative aimed to equip 40 university students with advocacy skills in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and digital advocacy.
Building Youth Advocacy Leaders
Participants were selected from the University of Nairobi (UoN) and United States International University (USIU), representing diverse academic backgrounds, including Medicine, Law, Sociology, Journalism, Criminology, Psychology, and International Relations. The cohort also included students from marginalized economic backgrounds, refugees, and persons with disabilities to promote inclusivity.
Project Launch & Training
The program was launched on July 26, 2024, at Pride Inn Hotel, Nairobi, with 41 students (34 female, 7 male) attending. Facilitators led sessions on SRHR, GBV, advocacy storytelling, and movement building, equipping participants with tools to effectively champion social change.
Continued Learning & Advocacy
Over the next six months, students engaged in online training and the review of Inua Dada Foundation’s advocacy toolkit. This process ensured the toolkit remained relevant and aligned with emerging advocacy needs, strengthening youth-led activism.
Key Lessons Learned
Through Generation Parliament, Inua Dada Foundation continues to empower young advocates, fostering a new generation of change-makers committed to addressing SRHR, GBV, and social justice issues.
